Wisdom Tooth X-ray

The unerupted lower left third molar (wisdom tooth) show in this dental xray is in a position of horizontal impaction. The pink dots indicate the position of the inferior dental nerve canal. This tooth would be said to be involved with the ID nerve canal (the root being in very close proximity to the canal carrying the inferior dental nerve bundle). Should extraction by the dentist be required due to the patient experiencing symptoms associated with this tooth, the oral surgery would be carefully planned and carried out to try an avoid any potential damage to the ID nerve.
