Hemisected Unroot Filled Tooth x-ray
This xray shows a hemisected lower right second molar tooth, where the distal root has been surgically removed. Traditionally root canal treatment would be carried out on the tooth prior to hemisection. The crown restoration, in this case, is retained solely by the mesial (front). On this xray, there are a number of amalgam restorations with over hangs (restoration not flush with tooth surface), which are detrimental to the periodontal health and increase the risk of tooth of decay in these areas.
