X-Ray of Tooth abscess
This dental xray shows a periapical infection on the root of the upper right central incisor. Of note is the immature open root apex compared to the apices of the adjacent teeth. This situation may have resulted from trauma (a blow to this tooth) during adolescent years, causing pulpal death and thus the dental abscess. If the tooth is to be saved, a treatment option would be to dress the root canal with calcium hydroxide paste. The reason for this is to try and achieve a calcific barrier formation and thus an apical stop to facilitate root canal treatment. Due to the tendency for root filled teeth to discolour, cosmetic treatment may be considered such as tooth whitening or veneers.
