X-Ray of Tooth abscess
This periapical dental xray shows a dental abscess on the lower right first molar. The radio-opaque (white) area is a large restoration sitting in very close proximity to the pulp chamber of the tooth. The blue circle highlights the apical radiolucent (darkest) areas, which are infections of the tooth apices and surrounding alveolar bone. This has resulted from pulpal necrosis (death of tooth nerve). A dentist may carry out root canal treatment or extract the tooth in such an instance.
