Miscellaneous Photographs - Trauma Restoration

The set of intra oral photos show the restoration of the upper anterior incisor teeth following an incident of dental trauma (in this case a fall). The initial ‘before’ intra oral shows the upper anterior incisor teeth, after the incident of trauma prior to any restorative treatment being carried out. The upper left and right central incisors were obliquely fractured extending markedly sub-gingival on the palatal aspect. The upper left lateral incisor had a less extensive oblique fracture with an exposed pulp. The right lateral incisor had a fracture of the coronal half without any exposed pulp. The ‘after’ intra oral photos show the patient following initial short term restorative treatment by a dentist. The lower left intra oral photo shows the right lateral incisor restored with composite resin material, and the upper left incisor restored with a porcelain post crown restoration after having a root canal treatment carried out due to the exposed dental pulp. The upper left and right central incisors were extracted due to their extensive sub-gingival fractures. The lower right picture shows an upper removable prosthesis (acrylic denture) in place, replacing the extracted central incisors. A satisfactory immediate cosmetic result has been achieved. After satisfactory healing of the extraction sites has occurred, the dentist and patient have three options for long term restoration, a replacement denture, bridgework or implants.
