Porcelain Crown

Here is shown an example of cosmetic dentistry. The above intra oral dental photographs show restoration by the dentist of a “peg shaped” upper right lateral incisor tooth with a porcelain crown restoration. The “after” intra oral photo shows the improved cosmetic appearance of the tooth compare to the ‘before’ picture giving an overall enhanced smile.

Malformed “peg shaped” lateral incisor teeth occur in approximately 1.5% of the general population. Restoration by the dentist with a porcelain crown would require two visits to the dental surgery. At the first visit the tooth preparation is performed. This would be minimal due to the naturally reduced shape and size of the tooth. The dental laboratory fabricates the porcelain restoration on models poured from impressions taken at the first visit. The final crown is fitted at the second surgery visit. Malformed “peg shaped” laterals are sometimes managed by an orthodontist combining tooth movement with restorative treatment to achieve an improved smile.

The video of this dental procedure shown here is included in our Video Stream Gallery and on our CAM.e.ROM  CD available to order online.
