Composite Restorations
These intra oral photos show the replacement of a composite resin restoration. A composite resin restoration (commonly referred to by the public as a ‘white filling’) is a tooth coloured plastic mixture filled with glass (silicone dioxide). The shade of a composite may alter with time due to staining foods such as tea, coffee and red wine. In the field of dentistry more advanced composite materials have been developed which supercede much older composite materials in regards to their aesthetic appearance and strength. The ‘after’ intra oral photo shows the improved cosmetic appearance of the same tooth, after replacement of the old restoration by a dentist with a more aesthetically pleasing composite resin restoration.
